We live in a world overwhelmed by the images that flash at us from screens, ads, magazines and the daily rat race. One of the things that people forget so easily is the need to sit down, take a breather and take a break. KitKat is famous for its slogan “Give Me A Break”.

As part of an online aspect, KitKat developed “The First Worldwide Site Where Nothing Happens”, presumably as a place to take a break. The only words on the site are, in fact, “Have A Break”. As the site loads (the URL is misspelled as well), words flash across the screen – representations of thoughts and images that litter our brains everyday.

Apart from the misspelled name, one thing that KitKat missed in their little break time is that doing nothing is no longer considered a break. The speed at which we function is now so fast, that taking a break at a computer no longer consists of nothing. After furious clicking, highlighting and pointing I figured out that this site really consists nothing.

The question is – what’s the point?

Why would I go to this website if I can spend some extra time “breaking” on YouTube, watching funny videos or sending messages on Facebook?

The concept is simple, and may just be too simple. And the fact that in this day and age, a campaign like this is not engaging, is slightly disappointing. Then again, you can always take your break with the King.

Piotr – how long did you sit on the site doing nothing? If you read the bottom of the site you will notice in small print, “If you detect something happening here it’s probably a bug and we’ll try to fix it. please report any incident to report@thefirstworldwidewebsitewherenothinghappens.com When confirmed you’ll be rewarded.” As I waited a lady bug came flying across the screen for me to click on. It then popped up a message box for me to give my email to get a reward.
